One day while cleaning and binge watching YouTube, I fell into a thread of “raw vegan” documentaries. I have seen them before, but this day was different. I can’t explain the pull that the raw food movement has on me. I have just been feeling it is something I should try. For my birthday each year I do something for my health. Last year I went to the gym. Don’t laugh, I went to Yoga every week, but to the gym only once. As a single person, it is very easy for me to eat junk processed foods. This is a bad habit that I really need to break. This was not about weight, just changing a bad habit. I was hoping the 10 day challenge would help me jump-start my new goal. I didn’t follow anyone’s set plan, I just made the recipes that I thought I would like. However, I drew a lot of inspiration from Shine with Plants, The Raw Boy and Kate Flowers on YouTube.
The day before I started this 10 day journey I went to the dentist. That really threw my plans off. I had menus and story-boards all set up for my blog and my YouTube channel. Needless to say, it did not happen that way. I was in a lot of pain and could not eat salads or anything crunchy. I took a few days to get over this.
Throughout the 10 days I mostly ate the same thing. This is because I ate what I know I already like. Also, I wanted this to be cost effective. Buying a bunch of fresh ingredients would not last long with only me eating them. I just didn’t want the waste. I did make a few new salad dressing and I made my own Zoodles for the first time. The one recipe that stands out the most to me is the cashew cream. I will make a separate blog post for that.
After the 10 days I incorporated cooked and processed foods back into my diet. I quickly realized that I had changed over the course of those 10 days. My body nor taste buds liked either one. I am working to change my Scrooge like budget so that I can purchase more fruit and veggies. This 10 day challenge also showed me how much I love creating new recipes. Some of which I will be sharing with you in the days to come.
