Now that I eat vegan, there are some foods I really miss. Velveeta Cheese and Shells has been one of those foods. I am fully aware that it is by no means something I should be eating in the first place. I could make my own mac n’ cheese since we have so many vegan cheese options these days. I just haven’t found a vegan cheese option that I like. While at Kroger one Sunday morning, I met the nicest lady. She told me she really liked the Daiya Deluxe Alfredo Style Cheezy Mac. I was not interested. In her effort to convince me, she said her young daughter really liked it. Ok, maybe its worth a try.
It comes in a box that has the two packets inside. One packet has macaroni noodles, the other has your cheese sauce. The macaroni noodles are made of brown rice pasta and have little ridges for the sauce to stick better. The cheese sauce is really creamy and holds up well with the noodles. Even the next day when I heated the left-overs, it was still creamy. I am shocked, shocked I say, by how much it tastes like real mac n’ cheese!! I love that you don’t need any additional ingredients. This is a great vegan alternative. Also, if you are lactose intolerant this could be a great option for you. Daiya also has two other “cheezy mac” flavors, Deluxe White Cheddar Style Veggie and Deluxe Cheddar Style. I was told by the nice lady at Kroger that the other two were not as good. For that reason I have only tried the Alfredo Style. This is worth adding to your lunch or dinner rotation!
